The pandemic has changed NYC in many ways. During this difficult time, the GCA’s infrastructure work has been at the forefront of ensuring the city’s functionality. This presented a unique design challenge for their 2020 annual report: maintaining a visual sense of energy and vitality, while remaining sensitive to a serious subject matter.

Our focus this year was the GCA members, and the essential work they have been doing behind the scenes while most remain at home. These critical, but under-the-radar projects inspired our cover design, which reveals only a small part of a photograph. This leaves the viewer to assume that they are only able to see the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the depth of the GCA’s work.

In the report, we created a journey for the reader to have insight on how GCA has played a vital part in keeping the city going. Using worker interviews, infographics with key stats, illustration, and photography, we conveyed the crucial nature of the GCA’s work this year.
